About Us

Founded October 9, 1902 as a sister church to the Elizabeth City Baptist Church, now First Baptist Church. Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church is a group of worshipers seeking to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to all people and to offer praises to our Lord through personal devotions and in fellowship with other Christians.

Our History

Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church

Our Weekly Services are led by Rev. Myron Simmons.

The Church Office is located in the Educational Building and is open from 9-5 Monday through Thursday except for lunch and 9-12 on Friday.

In addition to contemporary and traditional church services, bible studies and fellowship opportunities; Blackwell does amazing things for our community! Continue reading to find out more about some of our local community programs.

SHEEP-HARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Blackwell has adopted Sheep-Harney Elementary School.  We support the teachers and students by taking a strong interest in their school needs through prayer, financial support of projects such as field trips, volunteering, sending individual cards for third graders to encourage them before standardized testing, and encouraging the staff with cards and an annual breakfast or luncheon.
PASQUOTANK MINISTERS’ COUNCIL ON EDUCATION
This council is representative of area churches in our community, ECPPS school personnel and school board, and other organizations that have a strong interest in the well-being of our school district. Blackwell has been a strong supporter of the Council and has hosted its breakfast meetings on several occasions.
BACKPACK BUDDIES
BackPack Buddies is a mission to provide food over the weekends for low-income school children at our adopted school, Sheep-Harney Elementary School. It serves children from pre-school to fifth grade. A group of dedicated Blackwell members collects the food from the Food Bank, sorts it, packs it into backpacks, and delivers it to Sheep-Harney Elementary School, which distributes it to the children on Friday afternoons.
