Missions

Here at Blackwell we have several missions and programs designed to help those in need, spread the gospel through community outreach,  as well as provide fellowship and support! Here are some of those, just click or tap the titles if you would like more information.

SCHOLARSHIPS
Thanks to some very generous individuals we are able to offer scholarship endowments!
THE WINONA JOHNSON JOY CLUB

formed September 7, 1989
A Joy Club Member should be 55 years or older to be a member except the van drivers, their spouse and church staff.  Effective October 9, 1998, any new member must be a member of Blackwell Memorial Baptist church or Sunday School
JENNY JENKINS

Jenny Jenkins is now serving as a nurse/missionary in Haiti through the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship

HERITAGE CARE

For many years, the Joy Club with the Esther Class have provided Christmas gifts for every resident of Heritage Care, an assisted living facility. Throughout the year, the Exodus Class delivers artwork created by the children of Blackwell’s Preschool and Kindergarten, which the residents greatly enjoy.

BACKPACK BUDDIES

BackPack Buddies is a mission to provide food over the weekend for low-income school children at our adopted school, Sheep-Harney Elementary School. It serves children from pre-school to fifth grade.

CHRISTMAS CARDS & FRUIT BASKETS FOR SHUT-INS

We had the challenge of getting Christmas cards signed during outdoor church service but we were able to ensure that each homebound member got at least 25 cards and a Christmas ornament along with a basket of fruit the deacons delivered to those living locally. We wanted to make sure our homebound members knew we loved them and missed them. One was hand delivered to Connie Liverman in Dare county and a box was mailed to Katherine Aydlett in Huntersville, North Carolina.

SHEEP-HARNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Blackwell has adopted Sheep-Harney Elementary School.  We support the teachers and students by taking a strong interest in their school needs through prayer, financial support, volunteering, sending individual cards for third graders to encourage them before standardized testing and encouraging the staff in their endeavors.

SOULS MINISTRY
Souls is a community program that provides a hot evening meal for anyone who needs it and shelter for the homeless during the coldest months of the year. Blackwell supports SOULS through the generous contributions of its members.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

It was our pleasure to serve beverages, subs, and desserts for volunteers of Habitat For Humanity while they were constructing a home.

COMMUNITY CARE COLLABORATIVE

We saw our neighbors unable to pay rent and utilities. We sent Community Care Collaborative $1055 to help with their care. CCC is part of United Way.

RED BOX MINISTRY

We will help provide women prisoners in two institutions receive a Christmas box filled with personal toiletries, hard candy, and Christmas treats.
